FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

COMPLIANCE

Question:    Do the STS supervisor courses meet DOT and Drug-Free Workplace requirements?

Answer:   Yes.  Literally hundreds of our clients have been inspected by DOT agencies and none have ever been cited for anything related to STS training courses.

Question:   Do STS on-line training courses for employees meet the DOT Employee Education requirements?

Answer:   Yes, they cover all the required topics, and meet the FTA’s one hour employee minimum.

Question:   Approximately how long does it take a supervisor to complete the STS supervisor training courses?

Answer:  The average student taking the course as directed, and moving at a reasonably consistent pace, will take at least 2 hours and 19 minutes - well over the DOT time requirements.

Question:   What about my company/organization policy statement?  Don’t I have to provide a copy to every covered employee?

Answer:   Yes, and with a few “clicks” of your mouse, you can electronically add your policy statement to an STS course so that your employees will be able to read the policy before they start taking the course.

OTHER DOT MODES

Question:   I don’t see courses specifically designated for Pipeline, Railroad, or the Coast Guard administrations.  Do you offer courses for those transportation modes?

Answer:   The STS Drug-Free Workplace Supervisor and Employee Courses meets the drug/alcohol education requirement for PMHSA, FRA and Coast Guard.  (The STS course does not address the additional one hour post-accident training requirement for FRA.)

                        NON REGULATED ORGANIZATIONS

Question:   My organization is not regulated by any government entity so what can you do for us?

Answer:   The STS Drug-Free Workplace supervisor and employee training courses are designed specifically to meet your needs. Congratulations on a wise decision to implement a “Drug-Free Workplace Program”.

FLEXIBLE COURSE TIME

Question:   Do I have to finish the online course all in one sitting or can I take it as time allows?

Answer:   You can go in and out of the course as many times as you want and take as long as you need to finish the course.  The STS System remembers where you were and helps you go back and start at that point.

HOW TO PURCHASE

Question:   How do I purchase course licenses?

Answer:    Simply return to the home page and click on the “Purchase” button, select the courses/products you want and follow the familiar “shopping cart” purchase process.

CUSTOMIZE

Question:   My company has specific contacts and instructions for our supervisors.  Can STS include this type of information in their courses?

Answer:    Absolutely.  Although volume must be considered, STS can “customize” your course to include any additional information you might require.

SUPPORT MATERIALS

Question:   What is this “supplementary manual” mentioned in the course descriptions for supervisors?

Answer:    STS feels strongly that it is important for supervisors to have a reference they can go to when/if they encounter a Reasonable Suspicion Testing situation.  That is why every supervisor license includes either a CD or print copy of “A Supervisor’s Guide to Reasonable Suspicion Testing” that can be kept in his/her work space.

Question:   Do you have to have the manual before taking the online course?

Answer:    No.  Once you have completed the purchase process, you can immediately assign licenses and supervisors can start taking the online course.

LICENSE LIFE-SPAN

Question:   What period of time is covered by a course license?

Answer:   It covers one year from the date of issue.  Date-of-issue is the actual date a license is assigned to an individual, not necessarily the date purchased.

COMPLETION, QUIZZES, AND CERTIFICATION

Question:   Do I have to pass an examination to successfully complete a course?

Answer:    Yes.  Students must complete the chapter quizzes which self-score, and take the Final Examination.  The Final Examination has 25 multiple choice questions and you must receive a minimum score of 70% to pass.  The test can be taken multiple times if necessary.

Question:   How can I prove that I completed the course?

Answer:    Upon passing the Final Examination, simply choose to print out the Certificate of Completion that will be offered.  The company/organization program administrator can also print out a copy of the Certificate.

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

Question:   My company has hundreds of supervisors and employees.  How difficult will it be for me to administer the program and assign licenses?

Answer:    STS has developed administrative tools that make managing a larger program simple.  They include the ability to mass distribute and assign licenses, see up-to-date records of who has or has not completed the course, individually email your choice of who hasn’t, and print out duplicate Certificates of Completion from a central location.

NO ACCESS TO THE NET

Question:   My supervisors and employees don’t have access to computers so what can I do?

Answer:    STS offers employee handbooks for FMCSA and FAA modes that fully meet the Employee Education requirements.  For supervisors and/or employees, STS also offers on-site training —we come to you—please contact us for details.

We welcome your additional questions and comments and will update this list as appropriate.  Please contact us in the way that is most convenient for you.
